Free or Cheap Fall Fun!

I want to say thank you to everyone who answered my plea for activities that you can do for cheap or free in the months of October / November.  If you know of something, please post it in the comment section.  We would all love to know.

  • Pamela H- There is a place that is really cheap its on 36 going towards stillwater you can feed animals there's a hay ride and you can take pics behind halloween things and get pumpkins! My kids love it! I don't know the name of it tho! Its on the right side of 36.

    • Vicki B- I know exactly which one Pam is talking about... however the name escapes me too... it IS across 36 from Aamett's apple farm though...LOL! we go there every year... they have a maze and hayride that costs extra...
    • Kylie M- I was born and raised in Stillwater and am out there all the time. The place you are thinking of is Country Sun Farm. They are up and running :-)
  • Stephanie E- I love fall Harvest Apple orchard. They have a petting zoo, hay ride (It was like a free will offering) a smaller corn bin, baby chicks to hold. all kinds of stuff. I got out of there paying $5 for the hay ride one year... the other years I was able to buy Apples!! :) It's in Delano. :)
  • JoDell S.- there are the parades in Anoka. The night time one and the day one. Also Delano Happy Jack Orchard has a petting zoo, slides and places to walk around for free.
  • Cheryl B- This is an event at Warner Lake in Clearwater MN . It is dog sled racing and meeting mushers. Last year was amazing and this year should be even better. You can even meet Iditarod Veternarian http://www.eastmeetswestdryland.com/ Just click Spectators then Schedule of events. It is FREE!!

  • Tina B- Chisago City is having their Falloween Festival in Ojiketa park on Oct 23rd from 12-230 they have hayrides, facepainting, kiddie costume parade, dj, etc looks like alot of fun for the fam!! And it is FREE

Janet H- Lendts pumpkin patch in Wyoming is fun and they offer free parking, wagon rides, face painting, etc. I believe it is free, the pumpkins start at $3.
  • Angela W- Here in Rockford we are having a Fall Harvest Party on Oct. 31st from 3-5pm at Our Father's Lutheran Church Preschool to 5th grade
  • Tiffany K- Holmberg orchards in Vesta Mn. Is free.....hayrides, tours, corn pit, clowns, hay dig, small musuem and specialty events each weekend. They have a large gift shop....food stand and the pumpkins you pick on the ride do cost though (but were super cheap). Clean and fun place.....we had a lot of fun there last week and spent minimal.

We went to Eveland Family Farm in Andover last weekend. It is free! We saw lots of varieties of pumpkins, gourds, etc....lots of animals (pigs, goats, miniature horses that you can pet, a couple long-horn steer, chickens/roosters, peacocks, etc..) This place is very clean. They have clean bathrooms and sell snacks. There are free hay rides and a smaller corn maze...perfect for younger kids. The pumpkins and corn cost money, but there was plenty to do that was free. They have huge pumpkins for $15 and the smaller ones are .29 per pound. All 4 of our kids enjoyed a couple hours at this farm. Paula

*Aamodt's Apple Orchard is free, too. There is no entrance or parking fee, and you can sample all the apples you want for free. The petting zoo is small. There is a hay bale maze which costs $2 per kid last year, not sure about this year. They also offer hay rides, little toddler bike/tractor rides, and wine sampling (some have fees). The best part is that you can walk through the orchard and look at the apple trees. They sell wonderful apple butter and tons of other food/snacks to take home.
*On highway 10 between Ramsey and Elk River, there is a huge pumpkin patch. We haven't been there this year yet, but in the past, they have had an inflatable pumpkin for the kids to jump in...free! They also have lots of large wagons to pull the kids around while choosing your pumpkin. They have a few places that they have set up to take cute photos of your kids. Free....fun.....right on hwy 10.

*Dehn's family farm is in Dayton. Another free place to visit. Kids can see a variety of animals including lots of cows. There are lots of things to see on the farm and pumpkins are cheap. The family that lives there is very nice and extremely kid-friendly. Free! They have signs off of Dayton River Road and South Diamond Lake Rd.

As you leave, "some" people have been known to pick apples from the apple trees throughout the parking lot (which is allowed) and then throw them at the street signs as they drive home. This might not be legal, so I won't recommend it, but the kids get a huge kick out of it....so I hear!!
